Investigation into the alleged murder-suicide over the weekend confirms the husband shot the wife, before turning the gun on himself.

Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage said the autopsy confirms 61-year-old Victoria Burton was shot by her husband, 73-year-old William Claycomb.

Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said in previous coverage that deputies received a call of the incident Saturday evening just before 8:30. Tucker said their investigation also reflects the fact that Claycomb shot his wife, then shot himself, which ultimately resulted in his own death.

The evening of the incident, law enforcement officials arrived at the home, located at 41 Pinetuckey Road, Carriere, to find Burton with gunshots to the head and Claycomb in the bedroom with a gunshot to the mouth, Tucker said.

Claycomb died from his wounds after being transported by helicopter to Forrest General Hospital for treatment. He passed away at 12:31 a.m. on Jan. 31, said Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage. Burton died at the scene.
