A week after the Republican primary runoff election, it’s still uncertain where two candidates stand in the race for county Supervisor District 3.

Circuit Clerk Vickie Hariel said the ballots, which include 32 affidavits, are still being processed. Once they’re certified, the results could possibly affect the close race for Supervisor District 3. Hudson Holliday, who received 1,053 votes in the runoff election, leads with nine votes over incumbent Dennis W. Dedeaux with a total of 1,044 votes.

Holliday, former county supervisor and general of the Mississippi National Guard, said he’s ready for the election results to be finalized.

“I’m sure Dennis, like myself, is ready for it to be over. It’s a lot of stress. I’ll live with whatever the solution is. All I want is what’s best for the county,” Holliday said.

Dedeaux said he and his party “are waiting to see how it goes and keeping our fingers crossed.”

The election results should be finalized by the end of today or Wednesday, Hariel said. She encourages residents who voted through affidavit ballots in the runoff election to bring their identification to the clerk’s office before 5 p.m. today in order for their vote to count.

“Then we expect to proceed with counting the ballots that are eligible,” Hariel said.

Races that have already been called include, Melinda Smith Bowman, who led the Republican race for chancery clerk with 3,874 votes, beating out incumbent David Earl Johnson, who received 3,079 votes.

In the race for the circuit clerk office, Nance Fitzpatrick Stokes led the ticket with 3,999 votes, beating Sian B. Fazende who received 2,883 votes.

For the position of Constable Southeast, incumbent Ray Merle Bennett led with 1,016 votes beating Larry P. ‘Dusty’ Dillard, Jr. who received 677 votes.

The winners of the primary election and the runoff will be on the Nov. 3 general election ballot.
