Members of Picayune’s Knights of Columbus Council 6872 are gearing up for their sixth annual art show and are seeking artists for the event.
For the past six years, the club raised more than $13,000 for the Sav-A-Life of Pearl River Area in Picayune, Grand Knight Bryan Cassagne said.
According to previous coverage, Sav-A-Life is an interdenominational pro-life ministry that offers pregnancy support to women and men dealing with unplanned pregnancies.
“It’s a part of who we are, which is pro-life,” Cassagne said. “They help women with expenses such as clothing and formula.”
This year’s patron party falls on Sept. 11, which is Patriots Day, Cassagne said, so the knights went with a patriotic theme, “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”
“This day commemorates the losses in New York and Pennsylvania on Sept. 11, 2001,” Cassagne said.
The walls of the KOC hall will be filled with artwork from local artists, including some from Poplarville and Bay St. Louis, he said.
“The Pearl River County Arts League also helps organize and solicit artists,” Cassagne said.
Artwork will be for sale and 20 percent from each piece sold will be donated to the KOC for Sav-A-Life, Cassagne said.
Art will be displayed in categories including wood, acrylic, 3D, oil and watercolors, Cassagne said. There will also be a section for student art, which will not be judged.
The art show will kick off with a patron party on Sept. 11 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Cassagne said. During the party, which is open only to artists and patrons, awards will be handed out to the winners in each category. This year’s show will be judged by Annette Blocker from Ocean Springs.
The event will be open to the public on Sept. 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sept. 13 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, located at 408 Carroll St.
For more information about entering artwork or sponsorship opportunities, contact Cassagne at 601-466-3460 or via email at steelworkerbryan@yahoo.com. There are four levels of sponsorship, including platinum at $300, gold at $250, silver at $150 and bronze at $75. However, a donation of any amount is welcome, Cassagne said.
“We invited the public to come see the amazing local art this small community has to offer and it also helps a local agency in need,” Cassagne said.
