Local churches to celebrate Easter with services

This week, a number of churches across Pearl River County are commemorating Easter Sunday.

“Easter is the wonderful story of the resurrection of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ,” Central Baptist Church Pastor Rev. Billy Galloway said.

Central Baptist Church is holding an Easter egg hunt at the McNeill Walking Trail on Friday, April 3. Galloway said children up to grade six can participate. On Easter Sunday, April 5 the church will begin a sunrise service at 7 a.m. at the McNeill Walking Trail and at 10 a.m., they will hold an Easter Cantata called, “The King is Coming.” Central Baptist Church is located at 20 Sones Chapel Rd. in McNeill.

At St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, holy week begins Thursday, April 2 at 7 p.m. with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. On Good Friday, April 3, the church will hold two services, which include a Veneration of the Cross at 3 p.m. and Stations of the Cross at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, April 4 the church will hold the Easter Vigil Mass at 6:30 p.m. On Sunday, April 5 Easter service will be held at 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. Families and visitors are invited to attend. St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church is located at 1000 Goodyear Blvd.

At First Baptist Church of Picayune, Good Friday service will take place Friday, April 3 at noon. On Easter Sunday, service will begin at 11 a.m. First Baptist Church is located at 401 Goodyear Blvd.

Roseland Park Baptist Church will hold their Easter Sunday service at 10:15 a.m. Roseland Park Baptist Church is located at 2130 Hwy. 11.

In Poplarville, First United Methodist Church is holding a Good Friday, April 3 service at noon in Poplarville’s City Park. On Sunday, April 5 the Easter service will begin at 10 a.m. at the church sanctuary.

At First Baptist Church of Poplarville, sunrise service begins at 7 a.m. on Easter Sunday, April 5. Afterwards, breakfast will be made available until 11 a.m., when the Easter Cantata will begin. First Baptist Church is located at 203 South Main St. in Poplarville.
