I love a commute

Driving has always been therapeutic for me. I always enjoyed the ride back and forth from Bay St. Louis to Oxford during my college days at Ole Miss.

When I was a teenager, driving down Beach Boulevard and listening to the waves always calmed my nerves.

On the flip side, there are moments when road rage will rear its ugly head, but, hey, it happens to all of us right?

But there are times, when I’m alone in my car that I get to think about the day’s upcoming events or finding a solution to a problem I’m having.

My favorite thing about driving is playing whatever music I want.

My husband enjoys listening to talk radio the majority of the time he is in the vehicle with me, no matter how many times I’ve told him that it’s my car, my rules.

Generally, I prefer to listen to some Broadway classics from Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera and Cabaret.

I enjoy a wide a variety of music, although not so much of today’s mainstream music.

Currently on my iPod, there is music by the Blues Brothers, Ray Charles, Destiny’s Child, Madonna, Amy Winehouse and a host of other tunes that keep me singing.

I have found that my car is the perfect place for a private karaoke session. I’m sure other drivers look at me and wonder if I’m crazy, but who cares, it makes me happy.

My point is, if you’re feeling stressed, commuting to work or just want to take a drive then go jump in your car and belt out that favorite ballad or just ride in silence and let your thoughts go whichever way they may.

Always remember to drive safely and pay attention to your surroundings and other drivers.
