Ten Pearl River Community College baseball standouts have earned 2013 post-season honors with center fielder Braxton Lee and catcher-designated hitter Krisjon Wilkerson leading  the way with All-Region 23 and All-MACJC first- team accolades.

Second baseman Paul Pickerrell and right handed pitcher Christian Talley were named All-MACJC first-team selections, while right handed pitcher Jake Brumfield, right  handed pitcher Ryan Deemes, catcher Forrest Dungan, left handed pitcher Brandon Fry, right fielder Darius Knight, and first baseman Nathan Pugh were named to the All-MACJC second team.

The Wildcats wrapped their season as runners-up in the Region 23 Tournament after falling to top-ranked LSU-Eunice (La.) 5-0 in the championship round.

Here, in alphabetical and categorical order, are capsules of each honoree:

ALL-REGION 23, ALL-MACJC (FIRST TEAM)

• BRAXTON LEE: A sophomore who prepped at Picayune High, copped All-Region 23 and All-MACJC first-team honors for the second straight year. The Ole Miss signee led the Wildcats with a .406 batting average and .502 on-base percentage. A rock solid defender  in center field, Lee boasted a .970 fielding percentage — second-best on the team — committing only three errors while starting all 55 games in 2013.

• KRISJON WILKERSON: A sophomore who prepped at St. Stanislaus in Bay St. Louis, batted .341 and boasted a .477 on-base percentage, .635 slugging percentage,  and 11 home runs — all team-high totals. A hamstring injury limited Wilkerson’s defensive play  late in the season, but he sported a .972 fielding percentage behind the plate.

 ALL-MACJC (FIRST TEAM)

• PAUL PICKERRELL: A sophomore who prepped at John Hardin High in Elizabethtown, Ky., finished the year with a .371 batting average and an impressive .478 on-base percentage in playing in 54 of the Wildcats’ 55 games in 2013. Pickerrell belted 13 doubles,  second-best on the team, a team-high three triples, and a home run. He had a .920 fielding percentage at his second base position.

• CHRISTIAN TALLEY: A sophomore out of Hancock County High, Talley finished the season with a 9-5 record and was named MACJC and NJCAA ‘Player of the Week’ on two different occasions in 2013. The Southern Miss signee struck out 92 team-high batters and  walked 15 in 92.2 innings on the mound, boasting a third-best 2.62 earned run average.

ALL-MACJC (SECOND TEAM)

• JAKE BRUMFIELD: A freshman who prepped at Adams Christian Academy in Natchez, Brumfield wrapped his inaugural Juco campaign with a perfect 9-0 record, including pitching the distance in Pearl River’s 5-3 Region 23 semi-final victory over East Central.  He struck out 55 batters, walked 17, and gave up 69 hits and 23 earned runs in his 73 1/3 innings on the mound. Brumfield’s earned run average was 2.82.

• RYAN DEEMES: A sophomore who prepped at Holy Cross High in Chalmette, La., Deemes will suit up for the Nicholls State (La.) Colonels in 2014. Deemes finished this past season with a 9-3 record and struck out 45 batters in 68.1 innings of work. In addition,  he recorded four saves as a reliever.

• FORREST DUNGAN: A sophomore who prepped at Columbia High, Dungan batted .344 and boasted .481 on-base and .438 slugging percentages for the Wildcats in 2013; finishing with nine doubles and two home runs. His .992 fielding percentage behind the plate  was tops on the River squad.

• BRANDON FRY: A sophomore who prepped at Nease High in Jacksonville, Fla., Fry finished his Pearl River career with a perfect 5-0 record, striking out 51 batters in 48.2 innings on the mound. His 2.40 earned-run average was No. 1 on the team.

• DARIUS KNIGHT: A freshman out of Pearl High, Knight also copped All-Region 23 Gold Glove honors with his outstanding .981 fielding percentage in right field.

He batted .311 and sported .408 on-base and .401 slugging percentages; belting six doubles, two triples, and two home runs. Knight played in 54 of the Wildcats’ 55 games in  2013.

• NATHAN PUGH: A freshman out of Starkville High, Pugh batted .311 and boasted .414 on-base and .462 slugging percentages for the Wildcats. He hit six doubles and four home runs in 2013.
