Funeral Services for Fred E. Lumpkin, 91, of Picayune, Miss., who passed away Friday, May 10, 2013, will be held Monday, May 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. at McDonald Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 12, 2013 from 6-9 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home, and also Monday, May 13, 2013, from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in New Palestine Cemetery under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home.

The Rev. Russell Crowe will officiate the service.

A native of McNeill, Miss., he was a Shipfitter for Avondale Shipyard. Fred was a Mason in Moses Cook Lodge #0111 for 61 years. He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He served in the US Army Air Force during WWII. He was an avid musician who sang in gospel groups and also the Louisiana Hayride. Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and tending his bees. He loved visiting and talking with the people who came to his door to buy honey.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Morris Newton Lumpkin and Onita Spiers Lumpkin; his wife of 64 years, Nellie Richardson Lumpkin; his daughters, Verene Briggs, Janice Lenoir, and Beverly McDaniel; and his brothers, William Tommy Lumpkin, Rufus Leroy Lumpkin, and Jim Boye Lumpkin.

Survivors include: his daughter, Charlotte Bennett; his sons-in-law, John R. McDaniel, Dewey Lenoir, and Norman Briggs; seven grandchildren: Jeremy McDaniel and wife Theresa, Beatrice Jeanfreau and husband Bryan, Jeff Bennett, James Lenoir and wife Darby, Connie Crapeau and Joe, Laurie Antionette Shearin and husband Roger, and Veronica Briggs Nayya and husband Jimmy; 19 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-granchildren; his sisters, Lyda Smith Davis and husband Jr., and Evelyn Reece; and his sister-in-law, Virginia Lumpkin.
