Funeral Services for Murtis Pearson Spiers, 77, of Carriere, Miss., who passed away after a short bout of Cancer, Saturday, March 2, 2013, will be held Thursday, March 7, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Burgetown Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 6, 2013 from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. at Burgetown Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Burial will be in Burgetown Cemetery under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home.

The Rev. R.B. Bingham will officiate the service, assisted by the Rev. Jimmy Don Holland, the Rev. Mark Spiers, the Rev. Robby Holston and the Rev. Cody Moody.

A native of Galvez, La., she was a Minister’s Wife and a member of Burgetown Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. Sister Murt was the First Lady of Burgetown Church of the Lord Jesus Christ for 43 years, and the president of the Burgetown Church Ladies Auxillary. Murt was president for 12 years of the Gulf Coast District Ladies Auxillary. She previously owned M&K Catering, Murt’s Floral Design, and Murt’s Upholstery Shop. She was a member and judge of the Pearl River Arts League. Murt had several hobbies, including art (oil, water colors, and charcoal). She enjoyed sewing, cooking, quilting, interior design, crafting, crocheting, gardening, canning, ceramics, antiquing, and floral design. She was a cattle woman, and collected chicken figurines. Murt was a homemaker, and a prayer warrior.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Samuel Lawrence Pearson and Elme Milford Stephens Pearson; her son, Garland P. Spiers; her brother, Lawrence J. Pearson; her sisters, Brenes B. Norwood, and Mildred Lofton; and her twin brother, Curtis Pearson.

Survivors include: her husband of 61 years, Elder Frank P. Spiers; her children, Kathy J. (Keith) Holston, the Rev. Mark F. (Debra) Spiers, and Rhonda “Lulu” (Johnny) Holston; seven grandchildren, the Rev. Robby (Genie) Holston, Rachelle Holston, Rachel Spiers Spears, Francis (Crystal) Spiers, Kassie Holston, Bethany (the Rev. Cody) Holston Moody, and Joshua Holston; six great-grandchildren, Aaron Spiers, Braxton Spiers, Trey Holston, Olivia Holston, Caitlyn Spiers, and Johnna Moody.
