Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 1 p.m. in New Welcome Baptist Church for Mattie Trotter Fowler, 79, who passed away Sunday, April 15, 2012 in Forrest General Hospital, Hattiesburg, Miss.

Pastor M.J. Galloway will officiate at the service.

Interment will be in Dave Mondy Cemetery in Poplarville.

Mattie was born July 27, 1932 to the late George and Georgia Trotter. A native of Vossburg, Miss., she was retired from the Pearl River Community College. She accepted Christ at an early age. She moved to Poplarville in 1953 and united with the New Welcome Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverend E.H. Hart, where she served for many years as the Matron of the Starlight and Y.W.A., she was also President of Mission #1.

Mattie was untied in holy matrimony to J.W. Fowler, Sr. This marriage of 63 years was blessed with eight children.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, George and Georgia Trotter; her husband, J.W. Fowler, Sr.; one daughter, Amie Darcell; her stepson, John Robert McDonald; and three sisters, Rena Johnson, Elvira McDonald, and Catherine Edmound.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, John (Annie) Fowler, L.C. (Cindy) Fowler, Mamie Nixon, Judy Fowler, and Jerry Fowler all of Poplarville, Joyce (Herbert) Brumfield of Picayune, and Janice (Rowland) Alexander of Columbia; one nephew that she reared as her own, Frank Trotter of Carriere; one goddaughter, Patrice Magee of Texas; one sister, Ida Trotter of Picayune; six brothers, the Reverend Jeremiah, Joel, Jethro, Nehemiah, A.C., and Sylvester; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. She will also be remembered by some special friends, Sister Ella Daniels, Sister Marilyn Houston, Sister Helen Graham, and Brother Tabria Davis (whom she called her “special miracle friend”); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends that will truly miss her.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 21, 2012 one hour prior to service.
