Funeral Services will be Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, Slidell, La.
Katie Holmes Maiben was born April 16, 1932, in Waterproof, La., to the late Ella and Lun Holmes, Sr. She accepted Christ at an early age. In the early 70′s, she joined Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. W.L. Russell, where she served faithfully on the Usher Board. In 1957, she met Earl Maiben and later was united in holy matrimony. He was a loving and devoted husband and father.
Our heavenly father called Katie home on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Northshore Regional Hospital.
Katie was preceded in death by: her loving husband, Earl Maiben, Sr.; one son, Nathaniel Cooper, Sr.; her parents, Ella and Lun Holmes, Sr.; and one brother, Ottis Holmes.
Katie leaves to cherish her wonderful memories: three daughters, Dianne Cooper, of Picayune, Annette Torregano, Glenda (Guy) Martin, of Slidell; one adopted daughter, Ebony (Daniel) Bridges, of Slidell; a grandson, Ricky McCloud, who she nurtured and loved since birth; three sons, John (Barbara) Cooper, of Denver, Colo., Charles (Tammy) Cooper, of Picayune, and Earl Maiben, Jr., of Breaux Bridge, La.; five sisters, Betty Crossgrove, Leola (Charlie) Lee, of Avondale, La., Joan “Cedella” Simon, of Vacherie, La., Glenda Edwards, of San Bernardino, Calif., and Linda Hubbard, of Huntsville, Ala.; three brothers, Jimmy (Janet) Holmes, of Luling, La., Lun (Ella Mae) Holmes, Jr., and Sammy Holmes, both of New Orleans, La.; 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; three special friends, Marguerite Parker, Lillie Mae Campbell, and Rita Lewis; like a son, Lester Torregano, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. at Macadonia Baptist Church. Interment at Slidell Memorial Cemetery. Doyle’s Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
